Hornell approves budget with no tax hike

The Hornell Common Council has unanimously passed the 2025-26 city budget, keeping the tax rate unchanged. City officials emphasize that Hornell remains one of New York’s most affordable communities despite rising costs.

While taxes remain steady, the city approved a garbage collection fee increase from $95 to $105 due to rising service costs. Officials noted Hornell’s fee is still lower than nearby cities like Corning and Elmira. Mayor John Buckley highlighted the importance of maintaining essential services while keeping costs manageable for residents.

City leaders reaffirmed their commitment to affordability and quality services, ensuring Hornell remains a budget-friendly place to live.
