The Ontario County Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is teaming up with Donate Life New York State this April to encourage organ, eye, and tissue donation as part of National Donate Life Month.
The 2025 campaign, themed “Let Life Sing!,” draws inspiration from birds as a symbol of renewal and remembrance. Throughout the month, the Ontario County DMV will raise awareness and provide visitors with opportunities to enroll in the New York State Donate Life Registry when applying for or renewing a driver’s license, permit, or non-driver ID.
“The Ontario County DMV is proud to offer visitors the opportunity to ‘Let Life Sing!’ by enrolling in the New York State Donate Life Registry,” said County Clerk Jean Chrisman. “We are committed to raising awareness of the critical need for organ, eye, and tissue donation in New York State.”
While more than 3,600 organ transplants were performed in New York last year, nearly 8,000 state residents remain on the national transplant waitlist. In 2024, approximately 350 patients in New York died while waiting for a life-saving organ.
DMVs across the state have already helped nearly 6.5 million New Yorkers enroll in the registry. Donate Life NYS Executive Director Aisha Tator emphasized the impact of these efforts. “By providing the opportunity for the public to enroll in the NYS Donate Life Registry, they are the key to saving and healing the lives of thousands of New Yorkers in need of a transplant,” Tator said.
New Yorkers 16 and older can register as donors through multiple channels, including DMV transactions, MyDMV online accounts, voter registration forms, health insurance applications, and sporting license renewals. The DMV also offers a “Life – Pass It On” custom license plate to show support for organ donation.
