Odessa voters meet mayoral candidates ahead of village election

Around 40 residents gathered Thursday to hear from four candidates vying for Odessa’s mayoral seat: Dustin Carnes, Ron Greschler, Daniel Heichel, and Kathy Wilkens. Also present was Cindy Emerson, the sole candidate for Village Trustee, and outgoing Mayor Gerry Messmer, who urged collaboration among both winners and those who do not secure office.

Candidates discussed financial hurdles, particularly with needed infrastructure repairs, and stressed community engagement. Residents emphasized the importance of encouraging younger generations to return post-graduation to sustain Odessa’s future.

The election is set for Tuesday, March 18, from noon to 9 p.m. at the Village Community Room. The terms for both Mayor and Trustee will last two years.
