The property owner, who had been burning a grassy field, called Cayuga County 911 for assistance when the flames began spreading beyond their intended area. The Aurora Volunteer Fire Department led the response, with mutual aid from the King Ferry Fire Department and other local crews. Firefighters worked together to extinguish the blaze and ensure no lingering hotspots remained that could reignite in windy conditions.

Officials are reminding residents to use caution when conducting outdoor burns, especially as dry spring conditions increase the risk of wildfires. New York State’s annual burn ban goes into effect on March 16, restricting outdoor burning due to heightened fire risks.
