Over 200,000 New Yorkers sign up for Mobile ID

State officials report that more than 200,000 New Yorkers have adopted Mobile ID, a digital version of state-issued identification accessible via smartphone. Gov. Kathy Hochul praised the technology for providing secure, contactless verification for travel and age-restricted purchases.

Launched in June 2024, Mobile ID is accepted at TSA checkpoints in over 100 airports nationwide, including LaGuardia and JFK. Since October, bars, restaurants, and liquor-licensed businesses in New York have also begun accepting it.

The app ensures security by requiring Face ID, Touch ID, or a PIN for access. More details are available on the state DMV website.
