Ontario man arrested after thefts and pursuit in Wayne County

An Ontario man is facing multiple charges after allegedly committing a string of thefts and leading sheriff’s deputies on a vehicle chase that ended in a foot pursuit and arrest.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office reported the arrest of 62-year-old James R. Clark following investigations into three separate larcenies on February 27. Authorities allege that Clark stole items from Walgreens, Save-A-Lot, and Dollar General in the Town of Ontario. When deputies attempted to make contact with him, Clark reportedly fled in his vehicle, initiating a pursuit.

The chase ended on Ridge Road, where Clark then fled on foot through a residence before deputies subdued him with a Taser and took him into custody.

Clark faces multiple charges, including petit larceny, resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration in the second degree, criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree, reckless endangerment in the second degree, and several vehicle and traffic violations. Authorities also discovered he had multiple outstanding warrants for previous petit larceny charges, failure to appear, and a bench warrant for a missed sentencing appearance in the Town of Ontario.

Following his arrest, Clark was transported to the Wayne County Jail for centralized arraignment. He has been issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in Ontario Town Court on March 25 at 1:00 p.m.
