NY State Police to update patrol car colors

New York State Police are transitioning to gray patrol cars with gold stripes in 2025, replacing the current dark blue design. The change pays tribute to the agency’s 1950s fleet and aligns with troopers’ gray uniforms.

Officials say the switch will enhance visibility while also saving costs, as the previous custom blue shade required a licensing fee of $600-$700 per vehicle. The redesign will be phased in gradually as older vehicles are replaced.

State police emphasize that the updated look reflects their commitment to tradition, safety, and fiscal responsibility, ensuring patrol cars remain highly visible and recognizable to the public.
