Will NY residents receive a $5,000 ‘DOGE dividend’ check?

New Yorkers may receive a $5,000 stimulus check through a proposed ‘DOGE dividend’, but details remain unclear. President Donald Trump floated the idea of using savings from Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to issue refunds to tax-paying households.

DOGE claims to have cut $55 billion in federal spending, though this figure is unverified. Unlike pandemic-era stimulus checks, the DOGE dividend would only go to net-income taxpayers, excluding lower-income Americans. Critics argue the plan lacks transparency and could disproportionately benefit wealthier individuals.

While Trump has not confirmed the proposal’s rollout, New York officials are pushing back against DOGE’s aggressive cost-cutting measures, including layoffs and office closures. Gov. Kathy Hochul is actively recruiting displaced federal workers into state roles.
