A Port Byron woman is facing multiple felony charges, including aggravated vehicular homicide, after a fatal crash in November that claimed the life of a passenger.
The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of Kaitlyn Kudla, 21, on Wednesday in connection with the November 3 crash on West Seneca Turnpike in the town of Onondaga. Authorities say Kudla was behind the wheel when she lost control of her vehicle, resulting in a deadly accident.
As a result of the investigation, Kudla has been charged with aggravated vehicular homicide (a class B felony), second-degree vehicular manslaughter (a class D felony), and assault-recklessly causing serious injury with a weapon (a class D felony).
She also faces misdemeanor charges of driving with a blood alcohol content of 0.08% or higher, reckless driving, and moving from a lane unsafely.
The crash resulted in the death of Riley Besner, who was a passenger in Kudla’s vehicle. Another passenger, KeShawn Thomas, survived the wreck, though additional injuries were also reported.
Investigators determined that Kudla was driving under the influence at the time of the crash, leading to the charges against her. She has since been arraigned and posted bail.
