Firefighters from multiple departments responded to a reported chimney fire on Smith Road in Seneca County. Crews from Lodi, Ovid, and Interlaken Fire Departments, along with South Seneca Ambulance, were dispatched to the scene.
According to the Cayuga/Seneca Fire Wire, Ovid took command of the incident. Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the chimney, preventing further damage to the structure. The response was scaled back, with just a couple units remaining on scene to ensure the situation was fully under control.
No injuries were reported as a result of the fire. Authorities have not released further details, but the quick response from local fire departments helped prevent a potentially more serious situation.
Residents are reminded to conduct regular chimney maintenance and inspections to reduce the risk of chimney fires, especially during colder months when fireplaces and wood stoves are in frequent use.
