Republican senators are pushing back against the Trump administration’s reluctance to blame Russia for the Ukraine war, particularly after the U.S. sided with Russia and North Korea in a U.N. vote opposing a resolution condemning Moscow’s aggression.
Top GOP lawmakers, including Sen. Susan Collins and Sen. Mitch McConnell, called the U.S. vote “shameful” and warned Trump against negotiating peace on Putin’s terms. Defense hawks argue that Putin cannot be trusted and must be held accountable for war crimes.
Despite some GOP support for Trump’s diplomatic efforts, a growing number of Republicans insist that acknowledging Russia as the aggressor is crucial for securing a meaningful peace deal.
