Following a devastating fire that wiped out several businesses in Ovid’s main business district, including multiple restaurants and the village’s only supermarket, the local Veterans of Foreign Wars post is stepping up to help fill the gap.
Starting Monday, March 3, the Ovid VFW Arthur G. Depew Memorial Post 6200 will launch “Depew Chow Hall,” a new dining option offering hearty breakfast and lunch service from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. The menu will provide a range of meals for the community, and beer and wine will be available during lunch hours.
The fire, which broke out on January 21, destroyed six dining establishments, eliminating nearly all of Ovid’s restaurant options. It also forced the closure of the village’s only coffee shop, significantly reducing access to fresh, local food without requiring travel outside the area.
Depew Chow Hall will operate out of the VFW post at 7068 NY-96 in Ovid. The post welcomes all community members to dine, regardless of membership status.
