New York Senate pushes to simplify subscription cancellations

New York lawmakers advanced a legislative package Tuesday aimed at cutting costs and increasing transparency for consumers. The six bills address mobile subscription cancellations, energy billing, prescription drug pricing, grocery transparency, and support for farmers and low-income families.

One key bill, sponsored by Senator Andrew Gounardes, would require mobile apps offering subscriptions to include an in-app cancellation option. Another bill targets pay-for-delay agreements that slow the release of generic drugs. Additional measures focus on energy pricing transparency and expanding access to fresh food for SNAP recipients.

The Senate-approved bills must now pass further legislative hurdles before reaching President Trump for approval. Supporters argue the package will protect New Yorkers from hidden fees and unfair pricing practices.
