Judge blocks Trump administration’s federal funding freeze

A federal judge indefinitely halted the Trump administration’s attempt to freeze up to $3 trillion in federal funding, ruling that the move was impractical and placed critical programs in jeopardy. The decision is a major setback for Trump’s efforts to reshape government spending.

The lawsuit, brought by nonprofits and Democratic attorneys general, argued the administration was withholding funds to push its political agenda. The Justice Department countered that the case was moot since the original memo was rescinded, but the judge found the freeze still posed a threat.

Despite multiple court rulings against the freeze, the administration continues to withhold funds in certain areas, prompting further legal battles from states and advocacy groups.
