House narrowly passes budget plan backing Trump’s agenda

House Republicans narrowly approved a budget resolution advancing Donald Trump’s agenda, securing a major victory for Speaker Mike Johnson. The 217-215 vote came after intense lobbying, with Trump personally calling holdouts to secure support.

The budget includes $4.5 trillion in tax cuts, $2 trillion in spending reductions, and increased funds for immigration enforcement and defense. It also proposes Medicaid cuts and raises the debt limit by $4 trillion. Despite internal GOP divisions, last-minute negotiations flipped key votes in favor of the plan.

Democrats opposed the measure, calling it a giveaway to the wealthy at the expense of working families. The resolution now moves to the Senate, where Republicans face pressure to align with Trump’s fiscal priorities.
