Trump approves major disaster declaration for Kentucky after severe storms and flooding

President Donald Trump has approved a Major Disaster Declaration for Kentucky, unlocking federal aid to assist communities devastated by severe storms and flooding. The declaration, granted Monday, will provide financial relief for individuals, businesses, and local governments in affected areas.

The federal assistance includes grants for temporary housing, home repairs, and other recovery efforts. Certain nonprofit organizations and local governments will also receive funding to aid in rebuilding efforts.

“President Trump clearly understands that when Americans are in need, we all have to act together,” said Acting FEMA Administrator Cameron Hamilton. “His decisive action on February 16 allowed us to activate search and rescue assets and emergency response efforts to save lives. Now, his major declaration opens the full suite of FEMA support to those impacted.”

The Trump administration’s response follows severe weather that caused widespread destruction and loss of life across Kentucky. White House Deputy Press Secretary Kush Desai emphasized the administration’s commitment to assisting the state.

“In response to the tragic loss of life and destruction gripping Kentucky, President Trump has issued a Major Disaster Declaration to ensure that Kentucky gets the support it needs,” Desai said. “We are committed to marshaling every resource to save lives, rebuild communities, and help Kentucky emerge stronger.”

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear welcomed the federal assistance, calling it a crucial step toward recovery. “We are thankful to President Trump and his administration for approving this funding. This support will be a big help for our families and communities as they recover and rebuild from yet another terrible storm,” he said.

Congressman Hal Rogers also praised the president’s swift response, noting that the declaration includes both public and individual assistance for ten counties.

The Major Disaster Declaration follows an earlier emergency declaration approved by Trump last week. Beshear commended the administration’s efficiency, saying, “President Trump has responded to all of our requests—turned around the declaration of emergency about as quickly as I’ve ever seen.”
