One held on bail after welfare check in Owasco

An Auburn man was arrested last week after deputies responded to a welfare check and discovered he was violating a court-issued protection order, according to the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office.

Andrew C. Leader, 44, was taken into custody on February 19 at a residence in the Town of Owasco. Authorities say they were dispatched to the scene at 6:13 p.m. after receiving a complaint from a woman who had received a distressing text from her friend inside the home.

When deputies arrived, they found Leader in the presence of the victim, despite a full stay-away order of protection issued by Auburn City Court. The victim was unharmed.

Leader was charged with second-degree criminal contempt, a misdemeanor, and aggravated family offense, a felony, due to prior domestic violence convictions. Following his arraignment at Centralized Arraignment, he was remanded to the Cayuga County Jail without bail due to previous felony convictions.
