The Cornell women’s lacrosse team set the school record for goals (24), assists (17), and points (41) in a dominating 24-7 victory over Niagara on Tuesday afternoon at Schoellkopf Field. The Big Red improved to 3-1 with the lopsided victory, while the Purple Eagles slipped to 1-3.

The Big Red offense was dominant in a game that saw the running clock for nearly 39 minutes of action as the home team had a double-digit lead throughout. The 24 goals were one better than the 23 scored three times previously, while its 17 assists were two more than the previous mark at Jacksonville in 2012. Cornell scored 37 points in that game, a mark surpassed by the 41 on Tuesday afternoon.

While 18 different players found the scoring column, it was Kylie Gelabert and Ella Wilmot who shone the brightest. Gelabert’s seven goals (on seven shots) and nine points on the day were both one off the single-game school mark, while Wilmot had a hat trick to go along with her five assists – also one off the single-game record. Caitlin Slaminko had three goals and two assists, Josie Vogel scored twice with a helper and both Dillyn Patten and Kathleen Michaud had multi-point afternoons.

The Big Red defense was also on point, causing nine turnovers, and getting seven combined saves from goalkeepers Mackenzie Clark and Ellie Horner. The Big Red held a dominant 38-16 edge in shots and a 21-13 advantage in draw controls.
