Hornell’s home-building partnership with Greater Southern Tier BOCES continues to thrive, with the latest house on Upper Bennett Street selling for $199,000. The winning bid came from local business owners Ashvin and Madhuri Patel.
Meanwhile, construction is underway on the 13th house on Madison Avenue, marking a shift to onsite building rather than pre-fabrication at BOCES. The 14th home will be built on Canisteo Street next academic year on land acquired from St. James Hospital.
Officials praised the program for addressing Hornell’s housing demand, offering cost savings, and returning properties to the tax rolls. Without labor costs factored in, these homes sell for significantly less than contractor-built alternatives, benefiting both residents and the city.
