Walworth town supervisor resigns, eyes return to law enforcement

Walworth town supervisor resigns, eyes return to law enforcement

Walworth Town Supervisor Michael Donalty has announced his resignation, set to take effect on March 22, as he prepares to transition back into law enforcement.

On February 21, Donalty notified the Walworth Town Clerk and Town Board of his intent to step down, citing a new opportunity in the Public Safety Department administration at a local college.

“I’ve been offered an opportunity to return to law enforcement, my first love,” Donalty said in a statement. “I would not be able to responsibly and effectively serve the community while juggling two full-time jobs and that’s not fair to the taxpayers.”

Although stepping away from the supervisor role, Donalty expressed hope that he could continue serving the town as a council member. However, the decision on whether he remains on the board rests with its current members. He also hinted at a possible campaign for a board seat in November.

“As a non-native member of the Walworth community, I am grateful for the guidance and support that my wife and I have received from the residents and business owners in the Town during my tenure as Supervisor,” Donalty added.

Donalty credited the town’s staff for their dedication and the community’s progress, stating that he looks forward to continuing efforts to make Walworth a desirable place to live and work. The Town Board will now be responsible for appointing his successor.
