Officials push for more state funding to fix roads in Canandaigua

Canandaigua highway officials and state lawmakers are calling for at least $250 million in state funding through the CHIPS Act to repair local roads and bridges. While Gov. Kathy Hochul’s budget maintains current funding levels, officials argue rising costs make additional support crucial.

Beyond pothole repairs, funds are needed for infrastructure, equipment, and compliance with new mandates, including the shift to electric vehicles. Officials stress that past funding increases haven’t kept up with inflation, making 2025 particularly challenging.

With the budget deadline approaching on April 1, local leaders plan to lobby in Albany on March 5, urging the state to prioritize road maintenance. Hochul’s office has pledged continued investment but has not committed to additional funding.
