Hornell Firefighters Local 835 is donating all proceeds from its first annual Firefighter’s Ball to the family of John “JR” Gaudet, a Binghamton firefighter who died in the line of duty on Feb. 12. Gaudet, 40, was killed when a wall collapsed while battling a fire, leaving behind his wife and three children.
Following the Valentine’s Day event, Local 835 members unanimously voted to contribute the funds, recognizing the shared risks of their profession. The fire department is also collecting community donations at 110 Broadway until March 1. Checks should be made out to “Syracuse Fire Department Credit Union” with “Firefighter Gaudet” in the memo.
Hornell firefighters expressed deep sorrow but pride in supporting Gaudet’s family, demonstrating solidarity across departments in this tragic loss.
