Palmyra man arrested after police pursuit through farm fields

A Palmyra man faces multiple charges after leading Wayne County Sheriff’s deputies on a pursuit through the towns of Palmyra and Macedon before evading capture by driving through farm fields, authorities said.

Deputies arrested Colby C. Sears, of Quaker Road, on charges including unlawful fleeing of a police officer in the third degree, obstructing governmental administration in the second degree, and reckless driving. Additional charges include failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, speeding, multiple traffic violations, and unsafe lane changes.

The pursuit began when deputies attempted to stop Sears for a stop sign violation, according to the sheriff’s office. Instead of pulling over, Sears allegedly sped off, leading deputies on a chase. He eventually maneuvered his vehicle off the road and into farm fields, successfully avoiding capture at the time.

Following an investigation, authorities identified Sears as the driver involved in the pursuit. He was later taken into custody, processed at the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, and released with appearance tickets.

Sears is scheduled to appear in Palmyra and Macedon town courts at a later date to answer the charges.
