Wayne County fire departments have launched the Hydrant Helpers program, encouraging students to keep fire hydrants clear of snow and debris to ensure firefighters have quick access to water during emergencies. The initiative aims to improve fire safety, especially in winter when hydrants can become obstructed.
Students who clear hydrants at least three times during the season will earn a Hydrant Helpers Patch and Certificate. Participants can submit proof via an online form or share updates on fire department Facebook pages.
The Lincoln Fire Department and other local agencies back the effort as part of their commitment to public safety. Interested individuals can sign up online to take part in the program.
