Real Madrid vs Real Sociedad

While Real Madrid will be pleased to have avoided their title rivals Atletico Madrid and Barcelona, Carlo Ancelotti’s charges will know they will be in for a battle against Imanol Alguacil’s team. Although Sociedad has not quite hit the heights of last season yet, the Basque side is still in the hunt for European football for a sixth season running.

With a solid league campaign to date, Sociedad has enjoyed another good run in the Copa del Rey, reaching the semi-finals once again. This time, they will be hoping to go one better and reach the final after being knocked out on penalties to losing finalists Real Mallorca last season.

Sports betting operators always keep a keen eye on Real Madrid, such as the reputation of the club and the world-class quality in the squad. And the Copa del Rey is no exception. operators in the iGaming field are constantly creating betting markets and offering the best odds on Los Blancos. For Real Madrid, reaching the semi-final marks a significant improvement on last season’s campaign. Ancelotti’s men were knocked out 2-4 by city rivals Atletico and while they will have to see off Sociedad first to be in with a chance of exacting revenge. Real will be a hot favourite with sportsbooks like 1Bet to reach the final and add a trophy they have won only once in the last ten years to their collection.

It seems to be a common theme amongst many clubs in Europe, but Real has been decimated by injuries so far this season, particularly in defense, where Ferland Mendy was the only first team defender fit for the recent 3-2 win over Manchester City.

But what Real lack at the back, they certainly make up for in attack. With Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Junior, and Rodrygo beginning to form a more coherent partnership, backed up by Jude Bellingham in midfield, Real certainly has the firepower to blow any team away.

Verdict: Real Madrid to outgun Real Sociedad

Atlético Madrid vs Barcelona

The crunch tie of the semi-final draw sees two of the top three in the league duke it out for a place in the final. The last time Barcelona lifted the Copa del Rey trophy was back in 2021, while you have to go right back to 2013 for Atleti’s last success in this competition. Both teams managed to relieve their busy schedules by qualifying automatically for the Round of 16 in the Champions League and one of the two can book their place in the Copa del Rey final before they are in Champions League action again.

The title race is too tight to call right now with Atletico and Barcelona forming a triumvirate with Real Madrid in the race for the title. However, the styles of the pair to face off in this semi-final could not be more contrasting. Atletico has gone about their business in classic Diego Simeone fashion, prioritizing a defence which has kept eleven clean sheets to date. Clément Lenglet and José Giménez have created a formidable partnership and one that could help them shut out a Barcelona attack that has been plundering goals for fun.

Hansi Flick’s team have scored nearly double the number of goals than Simeone’s Atletico, with Robert Lewandowski (19) and Raphinha (16) featuring in the top three scorers in the goalscoring chart. However, Lewandowski and co. will need to bring their scoring boots if they are to reach the final. In the La Liga match between the pair in Barcelona just before Christmas, Atletico secured a typical Simeone win.

With only 37% possession and four shots on target, Alexander Sørloth nabbed a 96th minute winner to stun the Lluís Company’s Olympic Stadium. We can expect a similar pattern to Atleti’s 2-1 win on 21st December over the two semi-final legs with incredibly fine margins expected to determine who goes to the final in Seville to play either Real Madrid or Real Sociedad.
