Cayuga County warns of new phone scam

The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office is alerting residents about a scam where callers impersonate law enforcement, demanding payments for fake court-related debts and threatening arrest. Scammers are also using emails and invoices, directing victims to pay via Venmo.

Officials urge anyone receiving such calls to hang up immediately and advise against clicking links or making payments from suspicious emails.

Victims or those targeted can contact the sheriff’s office at 315-253-1222 (press 0) or email [email protected] for assistance.
