Auburn officials are preparing to settle a claim with the Auburn Enlarged City School District after a sewer backup caused about $22,000 in damage at Seward Elementary School last year.
The City Council will vote Thursday on a resolution to reimburse the district $22,115.83 for cleanup costs in exchange for releasing the city from liability. This move will prevent litigation. The AECSD Board of Education has already approved the settlement.
The incident happened on February 6, 2024, when a city project on Metcalf Drive caused a sewer line to back up, damaging the school, according to officials.
