The Schuyler County Historical Society will explore the lesser-known history of the Chemung Canal during its next Talkin’ History event. Historian Dr. Gary Emerson will present Crime, Chaos and Craziness on the Chemung Canal! on Sunday, Feb. 23, at 2 p.m. in Montour Falls.
Emerson’s talk will uncover violent and bizarre events once hidden in the canal’s archives, including murders, strikes, and theft. While the canal is often remembered for economic growth, this program will focus on its more chaotic past.
The event, held at the Silver Spoon Cafe inside the Schuyler County Human Services Complex, is free and open to the public.
