Sue Bouwens, a dedicated Newark Central School District employee since 1967, was surprised with a luncheon celebration for her 87th birthday on Jan. 24. Colleagues gathered to honor her decades of service, sharing food, gifts, and heartfelt appreciation.
Bouwens, who began as a cafeteria monitor and later became an aide and office worker, retired in 2000 but continued as a substitute clerical worker. Superintendent Susan Hasenauer praised her dedication, calling her a welcoming presence in the district office.
Despite retiring, Bouwens remains active, enjoying time with her family and continuing to help at the district office. Overwhelmed by the recognition, she expressed gratitude and vowed to keep working as long as she can.
