Yates County deputies honored for lifesaving actions and enforcement

The Yates County Sheriff’s Office has recognized two deputy sheriffs for their outstanding service and swift actions in critical situations.

Deputy Andrew Garren was commended for his response to two separate emergency calls. In the first incident, he arrived at the scene of a medical emergency where a man was bleeding and administered lifesaving first aid until paramedics arrived. Shortly after, he responded to a welfare check and discovered an unresponsive individual suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning. Acting quickly, Garren called for additional first responders and worked alongside fire and ambulance crews to ensure the person received urgent medical care.

Sergeant Derek Chisom was honored for his leadership in vehicle and traffic enforcement. During a routine traffic stop for excessive speeding, Chisom arrested a driver for driving while intoxicated and weapons-related offenses. Additional charges are pending. His decisive action that night resulted in removing a dangerous driver from the roads, potentially preventing further harm.

The Yates County Sheriff’s Office expressed its gratitude to both deputies for their selfless dedication to protecting the community.
