Jack Crabbe, a student at Victor High School, received the New York State Senate Liberty Medal for his heroic actions in saving his father’s life. While golfing last year, his father, Jon Crabbe, collapsed from cardiac arrest. Jack, who learned CPR as a freshman, immediately performed chest compressions, keeping blood flowing until emergency responders arrived.
Jon, unaware his son had learned CPR, woke up in the hospital to the shocking news. Doctors credited Jack’s quick response with saving his life. Jack expressed gratitude for the honor and hopes his story encourages others to get CPR certified.
The Liberty Medal, the highest civilian honor from the New York Senate, recognizes acts of bravery. The Crabbes now advocate for more people to learn lifesaving skills.
