Ovid holds prayer service as community continues rallying after fire

Weeks after a massive fire devastated Ovid’s Main Street, residents gathered for a prayer service at the Ovid Federated Church. The fire, which took over 200 firefighters nine hours to control, damaged eleven homes and six businesses. The service offered a space for reflection, support, and hope for rebuilding.

Community members shared memories of the historic block and expressed determination to recover.

Efforts to clean up, recover valuables, and assist property owners continue, with the Ovid Fire Department collaborating with Seneca County officials to plan next steps.

Fundraising is still happening now for recovery in the village of Ovid. The United Way of Seneca County and Catholic Charities of the Finger Lakes continue to be great resources for those looking to help and give back.
