Five Points inmate died in homicide; cellmate placed in isolation after making incriminating statements

The New York State Corrections Officers union revealed new information about the status of the investigation into the death of Adam Lafferty, an inmate at Five Points Correctional Facility. Lafferty was found unresponsive in his cell on December 23 with ligature marks and head injuries.

A preliminary death certificate lists the cause of death as homicide, which was reported by the Finger Lakes Times on Feb. 6. Representatives who spoke with FingerLakes1.com indicated his cellmate made incriminating statements and was subsequently placed in isolation pending investigation.

The union’s report highlighted a surge in violence at Five Points, with inmate-on-staff and inmate-on-inmate assaults doubling and tripling since 2020.

Investigations by state police, the Seneca County DA, and the Attorney General are ongoing.
