Gun violence declines across New York State under GIVE initiative

Governor Kathy Hochul announced a 28% drop in gun violence in communities participating in New York’s Gun Involved Violence Elimination (GIVE) program, the lowest rate since tracking began in 2006. In 2024, 238 fewer people were harmed by gunfire compared to 2023. Cities like Niagara, Yonkers, and Rochester reported significant reductions in shooting incidents.

The Governor’s FY26 budget includes $370 million to fund initiatives such as the SNUG Street Outreach Program, Project RISE, and new crime analysis hubs. These efforts support law enforcement, youth programs, and community services aimed at preventing violence and strengthening neighborhoods.

Hochul emphasized the state’s ongoing commitment to enhancing safety and saving lives.
