Hochul vows to uphold state law amid federal immigration changes

In response to new executive orders from the Trump administration, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul pledged to “follow the law” on immigration while resisting federal policies she deems harmful. She emphasized cooperation with law enforcement in cases involving serious crimes and reaffirmed the state’s readiness to challenge policies like the effort to end birthright citizenship.

Hochul criticized congressional inaction on immigration reform, accusing Republicans of politicizing the issue and leaving states to handle the fallout. She assured New Yorkers the state would continue protecting immigrant families and addressing immigration challenges as they arise.

Hochul also highlighted her recently unveiled $252 billion state budget, emphasizing fiscal preparedness to weather unexpected crises like pandemics or natural disasters.
