Sen. Adam Schiff condemned President-elect Donald Trump’s attempt to prevent Attorney General Merrick Garland from releasing Special Counsel Jack Smith’s final report on Trump’s classified documents and election interference cases. Schiff called the move audacious and urged Garland to reject the request.
Schiff emphasized that such reports, funded by taxpayers, are historically made public and argued that burying it would undermine accountability for Trump’s actions. He criticized the Justice Department for failing to bring Trump to trial despite years of investigation.
Trump’s legal team has requested that Garland leave the decision to Trump’s incoming attorney general. Schiff insisted the report’s evidence must be preserved to prevent future cover-ups or destruction of records.
