McDonald’s scales back diversity initiatives amid broader corporate trend

McDonald’s announced it is scaling back some diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives, including removing representation targets for senior roles and ending a supplier diversity pledge program. The company will now focus on discussing inclusion in relation to business performance.

Additionally, McDonald’s renamed its diversity team to the Global Inclusion Team and paused external surveys related to DEI metrics. The shift follows similar moves by companies like Ford and Lowe’s after the Supreme Court’s affirmative action ruling.

Despite these changes, McDonald’s reported that over 30% of its leaders come from underrepresented groups, with gender pay equity achieved and 25% of supplier spending directed to diverse-owned businesses.
