Syracuse basketball ends the 2024 calendar year with a loss in the JMA Wireless Dome Tuesday afternoon, losing to the Wake Forest Demon Deacons 81-71. In what has been a common occurrence in the early season, the Adrian Autry coached squad found themselves in an early hole. Heading into the first media timeout, the Orange trailed 16-2. Enter Kyle Cuffe and Lucas Taylor off the bench, who led the Orange in a first half comeback to enter halftime trailing only by two, 36-24. Cuffe offensively cooled off in the second half, while Jaquan Carlos joined Taylor on the offensive attack. In the end, it just wasn’t enough as the Orange fall back to being under .500.
During the game, Kiyan Anthony was recognized by the athletic department. Anthony, the son of Orange legend and 2003 champion Carmelo Anthony, is committed to the program in its 2025 recruiting class. Anthony is a guard who is a four-star rated prospect.
Carlos and Taylor each tallied 16 points, tied for the team lead. Cuffe followed with 14, Eddie Lampkin chipped in eight with Jyaire Davis and Donnie Freeman adding seven. Hunter Sallis had a game high 23 points for the Demon Deacons, Cameron Hildreth followed with 14, and Ty-Laur Johnson and Tre’Von Spillers added 11.
Syracuse heads to Florida State next for a Saturday battle with the Seminoles. The Orange will enter the game with a 6-7 record, and 0-2 in ACC play.
