Rescue crews responded late Sunday to Taughannock Falls State Park after reports of a person falling into the gorge.
According to the Trumansburg Fire Department, the victim was found about a quarter mile upstream from the falls. Emergency teams set up a high-angle rope system to retrieve the individual, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The New York State Police and State Park Police are investigating the incident. Multiple agencies, including the Seneca County Technical Rescue Team, assisted with the operation.
