The Cayuga County Legislature amended the 2025 budget proposal on Tuesday, cutting nearly $500,000 earmarked for Emerson Park improvements. Legislator Mark Strong introduced the amendment, which received bipartisan support. The cuts affect curb and paving repairs, entrance signs, a traffic gate, dredging, and slab repairs.
Strong’s proposal faced some opposition. He initially aimed to cut $45,000 for park lighting, but Chairwoman Aileen McNabb-Coleman argued it was a safety issue. The lighting funds remained, while other cuts proceeded. Strong cited job cuts in the budget as a reason for delaying infrastructure projects.
Additional amendments, including deferring a planner hire and repaving a parking lot, failed in split votes. The final $192 million budget is set for a vote Thursday. That meeting can be watched below.
