Russian President Vladimir Putin described U.S. President-elect Donald Trump as “intelligent and experienced,” suggesting he could resolve strained relations between Moscow and Washington, CNN reports.
Speaking in Kazakhstan, Putin accused President Biden of escalating the Ukraine war by permitting Kyiv to use U.S. long-range missiles against Russian targets. Putin also threatened further missile strikes on Ukraine, including against “decision-making centers.”
Putin’s remarks follow Trump’s nomination of Gen. Keith Kellogg as a special envoy to address the conflict. Trump has vowed to end the war in 24 hours but has not detailed his approach.
Putin criticized Trump’s legal troubles and cited assassination attempts during his campaign as evidence of “uncivilized” opposition. The comments underscore ongoing tensions as Trump prepares to assume office.
