Cayuga County legislators narrowly approved a recruitment outreach initiative aimed at expanding the pool of candidates for county jobs, according to The Citizen.
Legislator Brian Muldrow, D-Auburn, proposed the program, which focuses on engaging underrepresented groups, including minorities, veterans, and individuals with disabilities.
Despite pushback from Legislator Hans Pecher, C-Genoa, who criticized the plan as unnecessary and labeled it “woke stuff,” the resolution passed 6-5.
Chairwoman Aileen McNabb-Coleman added an amendment to increase awareness of board and agency vacancies, which passed along party lines, 7-4.
