A hidden recipe change at a restaurant led to the tragic death of 23-year-old Alison Pickering, just days before her graduation from Tarleton State University in May 2023.
Alison, who had a severe peanut allergy, regularly ate mahi mahi at the restaurant, unaware the dish’s recipe had been altered to include peanut sauce.
After taking a few bites, Alison recognized the symptoms of an allergic reaction. She used her EpiPen and sought medical help but fell unconscious en route to the hospital.
Her death was later ruled as a severe anaphylactic shock. Her family is now advocating for clearer allergy disclosures and better awareness to prevent similar tragedies.
