The Syracuse men’s basketball team (4-2) got back in the win column with an 82-72 victory over Cornell (4-3) on Wednesday night at the JMA Wireless Dome, extending their winning streak against the Big Red to 44 games.
Freshmen standouts Elijah Moore and Donnie Freeman led the charge, combining for 42 points. Freeman notched a double-double with 23 points and 12 rebounds, while Moore added a career-high 19 points and seven rebounds. Moore’s first-half scoring off the bench fueled a 33-9 run, helping the Orange overcome an early deficit and secure a 39-28 halftime lead.
Cornell started strong, shooting over 50% in the first nine minutes and building an 11-point advantage. However, the Orange surged late in the first half with a 20-3 run, capitalizing on improved shooting and strong performances from Moore and Freeman. Freeman nearly achieved a first-half double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds, while Moore tallied 13 points in the opening frame.
Syracuse used a new starting lineup, with Jyare Davis making his first start of the season. The Orange excelled at the free-throw line, shooting 17-of-20, maintaining consistency from their last two games.
