A Geneva man has been arrested and charged with third-degree burglary following a break-in at a Castle Street business late Monday night.
According to the Geneva Police Department, officers responded to the business around 10:30 p.m. on November 18 after a report of a burglary. Investigators determined that the suspect, identified as 38-year-old Miguel Angel Marin-Torres, forced entry into the establishment and attempted to steal a cash register.
The incident caused more than $2,000 in damage to the business’s door, forcing the establishment to temporarily close the following day.
Detectives identified Marin-Torres as a person of interest on Tuesday, November 19, and took him into custody. During the investigation, officers found a controlled substance in his possession, adding to the charges he faces. Marin-Torres was processed at the Public Safety Building and transported to the Ontario County Jail for arraignment.
This is not Marin-Torres’s first encounter with the law. He was previously arrested for burglarizing the same business earlier this year on April 4. Additional charges related to this most recent incident are pending, police said.
