Vice President Kamala Harris and Democrats secured support from highly engaged voters in the 2024 presidential race but struggled with those less tuned into politics.
Among voters who said they don’t closely follow public affairs, Donald Trump led Harris by 14 points, reflecting challenges for Democrats with younger, working-class, and less-educated voters.
Democratic strategists criticized the party’s messaging, arguing it fails to connect with less-engaged audiences. Overreliance on data-driven campaign models has narrowed outreach, leaving many voters to form opinions based on party perceptions rather than direct communication.
Critics noted that while Trump capitalized on frustrations about the economy and the nation’s direction, Harris’ campaign appeared less focused on addressing these concerns.
