Body camera footage shows an Oklahoma City police officer forcefully arresting 71-year-old Lich Vu during a traffic stop on October 27.
The incident left Vu hospitalized with serious injuries, including a skull fracture, and led to the officer being placed on administrative leave. Police are investigating the case, which will be reviewed by the Oklahoma County District Attorney’s Office.
The video reveals a confrontation escalating after Vu questioned a citation for an illegal U-turn. After a tense exchange, the officer restrained Vu, taking him to the ground and handcuffing him. Thuan Nguyen, president of the Vietnamese American Community of Oklahoma, called the actions excessive and demanded accountability.
The incident has sparked concerns about implicit bias and police interactions with minority communities.
