Democrat Josh Riley has defeated Republican U.S. Rep. Marc Molinaro in their high-profile rematch for New York’s 19th Congressional District.
Riley clinched victory with 50.7% of the vote to Molinaro’s 49.3%, a margin of just over 4,000 votes, according to the Associated Press.
Molinaro conceded Tuesday evening, expressing pride in his campaign and urging Riley to prioritize all constituents. Riley’s win concludes Molinaro’s brief congressional tenure, following a career in local and state politics, including a 2018 gubernatorial run.
The district, spanning Rensselaer to Tompkins counties, will now be represented by Riley when he joins the 119th Congress in January.
