Trump taps Rep. Mike Waltz as national security adviser

President-elect Donald Trump has selected Rep. Mike Waltz of Florida as his national security adviser, sources confirmed Monday. Waltz, a former Green Beret with extensive service in Afghanistan, the Middle East, and Africa, has been an outspoken member of Congress on foreign policy, serving on the Armed Services, Foreign Affairs, and Intelligence committees.

Known for his hardline stance on China, Waltz argues that the U.S. must bolster its readiness in the region and has also voiced skepticism about ongoing U.S. support for Ukraine, advocating for a diplomatic approach with Russia. His new role as national security adviser does not require Senate confirmation.

Waltz joins Rep. Elise Stefanik, Trump’s pick for U.N. ambassador, as part of the president-elect’s early administration selections.
