In honor of Veterans Day and its enduring partnership with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Northeast College of Health Sciences is offering free healthcare screenings for veterans throughout November at its outpatient centers in Depew, Levittown, and Seneca Falls, N.Y. The college, a leading educator in health sciences, is extending complimentary spinal, posture, and blood pressure screenings to veterans, alongside discounted custom orthotics and access to veteran benefits consultations on a rotating basis at each location.
“Much like the VA, we take a whole-health approach to veterans’ care,” said Daryon Ray, assistant dean of clinical education at the Northeast College Levittown Health Center. “These screenings offer veterans a chance to gain insight into their health while addressing specific healthcare needs.”
Northeast College’s community-focused mission includes regular support for veterans at events across the state. This September, college faculty and students attended a suicide prevention event at Buffalo’s Veterans One-Stop Center, where Northeast’s Dr. Brad Hopkins and student clinicians discussed pain management and mental health support. “We’re committed to equipping veterans with techniques they can use every day to improve their quality of life,” Hopkins said.
In August, the college participated in VetFest at the Northport VA Medical Center, where Northeast students and faculty provided veterans with resources on chiropractic care, nutritional counseling, and other wellness services. “Quick, convenient healthcare access remains a challenge for veterans, and we’re here to address that,” said Ray, a current member of the U.S. Air Force.
With nearly two decades of collaboration, Northeast College has established partnerships with more than 10 VA medical centers across the region, allowing students to complete clinical rotations focused on veterans’ healthcare. “Our students have delivered thousands of chiropractic adjustments to veterans,” said Wendy Maneri, dean of clinical education. “Through our partnership with the VA, we’re able to provide real-world care experience while supporting a community that has served us.”
In 2012, Northeast College launched the first VA chiropractic residency program, a milestone that continues to give healthcare students hands-on experience in pain management, orthopedics, and other specialties critical to veterans’ care. The college remains dedicated to advancing healthcare access and quality for veterans, as highlighted by President Dr. Michael Mestan. “We thank our veterans for their service and are honored to play a role in their healthcare,” Mestan said.
Screenings are available Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at all Northeast College health centers. Walk-ins are welcome, though appointments are encouraged.
